Google reader…

Google personalised homepage just got better with the release of the Google reader module.

Google reader is an rss feed aggregator which lets you view all the latest blog posts, articles or whatever from your favourite sites. If any site has an rss feed, you can add it to Google reader.

The Personalised homepage module is particularly useful for me. I used to have a big long column of seperate rss feeds running down the left-hand column of my homepage (of my Google homepage, not this website!). This had started to get a bit unmanageable as i added more and more feeds. The reader module now summarises all my feed content into 1 cool scrolling list which includes the now familiar Google starring and labelling tools.

I’ve never been happy with the idea of a seperate rss aggregator (either software or web based service) as it seems like just another chore (along with checking my various email accounts etc). Having the stuff right there on my homepage is exactly what I need.

The service is still in beta (as are many google services) and I had a few problems adding feeds in FireFox (mainly to do with pages not refreshing when they should) - don’t let the beta’ness stop you from using it though - especially if you are already a personalised homepage user.

Highly recommended - give it a whirl!

That reminds me, I really must get all my feed buttons sorted at some point soon!
