10 Months Later and I’m just getting into Antony and the Johnsons!

Its been 10 months since Antony and the Johnsons won the Mercury Music Prize and only now am I starting to pick up on the odd track.

I listened to the album at the time it won, but dismissed it as some kind of gimic album – yeah, the guys got gender issues and warbles quite a lot – big deal!

I’ve just stumbled across a track on a Giles Peterson mix, Petit Dejeuner Au Lit! which is actually from Habitat (as in overpriced homewares). The track is called “Man is the baby” and its a truly amazing song! Its harrowing but at the same time very uplifting, a strange mix of chords and melodies that shouldn’t work, but do. Its track 4 on I am a bird now – the album that won Antony and the Johnsons a Mercury Music Prize.

If you’re into your downbeat/mellow tunes, I recommend giving this track a listen – you won’t be disappointed!
