Google webmaster tools updated
Google have updated the Google webmaster tools (formerly known as Google Sitemaps). The 4 updates provide even more transparency to webmasters/marketers trying to get ahead in Google.
Of the 4 updates, probably the most interesting (certainly from an e-commerce point of view) is the ability to increase or decrease the frequency at which Googlebot visits your site. If you have an ever changing product catalog (as is usually the case with e-comms sites) increase the frequency of visits and get your changes indexed more regularly. If you have a reasonably static site and bandwidth costs are a concern, have Googlebot visit your site less frequently!
Other new features include all manor of stats on how frequently GoogleBot actually visits, how much bandwidth it eats and how many URL’s you’ve submitted to Google for indexing.
